Rochester's Village Hall

Take a video tour of the Village of Rochester’s 6,200-square foot Village Hall, Racine County’s first US EPA EnergySTAR Rated Office Building. Opened in 2013, the building provides 40 percent more space for staff and residents, yet costs less to heat, cool and power. Even during one of the harshest winters on record, the Village reduced annual energy cost by 33 percent per square foot in the first year of operation.

Additional Info

Some of the elements designed to conserve both environmental and financial resources included:

  • Capturing, controlling and using natural daylight as a valuable asset
  • Utilizing the existing tree line/landscaping to provide shade in summer and allow in more sun/heat in winter
  • Selecting highly efficient lighting fixtures and lighting controls such as occupancy sensors and dual switched lighting
  • Installing energy efficient HVAC/mechanical equipment in a central location so conditioned air has less distance to travel.
