The Vault Self-Storage located at 1450 N. West Avenue in the City of Waukesha, WI is a great example of converting an existing industrial building into self-storage. This adaptive reuse of an older building enhanced its curb appeal by opening the building facade up through the use of extensive glazing leaving nothing to the imagination for those who pass by.
To that end, Anderson Ashton took advantage of the existing windows located in the former business office along West Ave., expanding them to allow for actual self-storage units to act as advertising for the development. The same approach was taken by filling in the existing loading docks and replacing 10' x 10' overhead doors with new storefront glazing.
Given the steady traffic on West Ave and given The Vaults proximity to Summit Ave., the new sign tower serves a dual purpose of creating visibility as well as to help create brand awareness. The result was so successful that immediately The Vault moved into Phase 2 building and additional 45,000sf of interior and exterior drive-up storage units that includes a fully enclosed drive-thru.
